While we were sinking is created in Ania’s San Francisco studio, using notional forms and bold pigment to create a distinctive, graphic piece. A product of its environment, the painting is named after a phrase, lyric or quote that the artist heard whilst creating the work. Whether from a song, audiobook, podcast or overheard from a passer-by, each phrase has stuck with the artist and is definitively linked to her perception of the painting.
