care

Our pieces are intended to be used and enjoyed, whether to hold your morning cup of coffee or to bring colour to your walls. However, the key to a long and happy life for your piece is a life well cared for. We’ve put together a complete IATB care guide to help you get the most out of your purchase, and to ensure you continue loving it for many years to come. Read our top tips below.

  • Each piece of ceramic tableware is individually crafted by hand in our Portuguese workshop. Our skilled makers have been working for many generations to perfect their production methods, and expert care has been taken to ensure quality and consistency in every piece.

The handmade nature of the process means there may be some small differences in each item, from the shape and glaze to small marks of the making process evident in the clay These details are a beautiful reminder of our natural materials and the hands that made them, and each piece should be valued for its uniqueness.

  • Before first use, we advise that you wash your pots by hand in hot soapy water, rinse and allow them to air dry.

    Our ceramics are dishwasher-safe.

  • Our ceramic pieces have been fired to very high temperatures, which means they are very durable and microwave-safe. As the exterior of most pieces is left unglazed, they can get quite hot in the microwave so always be careful when picking it up.

Please do not place ceramicware in the oven, as this can cause thermal shock when they are removed which may result in hairline cracks, glaze cracks or complete breakage.

  • To keep your tableware clean and safe, store in a dust-free environment.

All items can be stacked, although we advise against stacking plates higher than eight as they are heavy and could be a hazard.

  • Each painting is created using gouache, a water-based pigment with a luminescent quality.

The piece has been sealed for protection, providing a dust-resistant and durable surface for future enjoyment.

The painting surface should be handled with care. Please note that any contact with moisture, heat or friction will affect the finish and may damage the artwork.

  • Each piece is presented framed in a white wood tray frame.

To clean the frame, use a dry dust cloth and wipe gently; avoid exposing the wood to moisture. Handle gently, and take care not to dent or damage the corners when hanging, which can be easily done if treated roughly.

  • Each work is received with framing wire already attached. All you will need to frame your artwork is a framing hook or pin, and a hammer to attach it to the wall.

To ensure longevity, do not frame the work in direct sunlight, and it is best to avoid rooms that may create moisture such as the bathroom or near kitchen appliances. The perfect home for your piece is in a bright but shaded spot in a warm, dry room. Continued exposure to damp, sunlight, or excessive heat may damage the piece in time.

  • The painting has been sprayed with a dust-resistant sealing spray, however it may collect a small amount of dust over time.

To clean, wipe gently with a completely dry cloth, ensuring not to apply too much pressure to disturb the pigment.
